Tablet or Brick? Dell Latitude 10 Inch: Brick

If you're thinking of getting a tablet you may want to consider if you want to pay $500 for a brick instead.

Having tried every major tablet made I looked forward to seeing what Dell came up with.

So I tested Dell's Latitude 10 inch... or tried to.

The battery didn't hold a charge. At all.

I plugged it in for eight hours and then tried it. Nothing.

So, at least in terms of this particular tablet, it's a brick. And a few design flaws. See the video:

Besides the battery not working, another design flaw is the power plug on the bottom. Notice in the video how it rests on the power cord?

Thirdly, the fusion of Windows desktop and a tablet OS by Microsoft is a clunky, hit-and-miss effort by the folks in Redmond. It's a tablet that doesn't know if it wants to be a desktop or a tablet.

I'm disappointed that Dell would send a unit without at least testing it to make sure the battery worked.

With all the drama a few months ago about Dell going private (vs. remaining a public company), the fact is it's the product that matters most.
