A Dizzying 3D Street Art Project Devoted To Space Invaders

If you love Space Invaders -- that gem of an arcade game created by Tomohiro Nishikado in the late 1970s that turned pixelated aliens into a staple of pop culture history -- then prepare to be wowed.

The hypnotic pop of three-dimensional street art comes courtesy of Leon Keer, an avid chalk artist known for his dizzying designs on streets around the world.

"I would like to share some photos of my latest 3D artwork, ‘Space Invaders,’ created at the EPFL campus in Lausanne, Switzerland," Keer wrote in an email to The Huffington Post. "The artwork measures 150 square meters and was made in six days. It will be on view until April 10 at the campus."

We expect the irony of a ground-breaking 2D game being transformed into a 3D work of optical illusion is not lost on Keer. Check out the making of the piece below, and then we advise you go grab an Atari and take your ol' canon lasers out for a spin. Long live Space Invaders!
