Atari is set to introduce "Pridefest," an original social-sim game for tablets and mobile devices that's specially geared toward the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

According to officials, "Pridefest" will allow gamers to customize their own Pride parade in a city of their choosing. The game will include "various personalization and social features," including the opportunity to chat with friends, while players must "solve challenges and complete quests" in order to unlock festival supplies, according to Atari officials.

Chief Operating Officer Todd Shallbetter said the company was excited to be developing "Pridefest," saying the game "represents a passionate cause" and is one in a variety of new games which will be "inclusive" for all fans.

Announcement of the new game comes on the heels of Atari's participation at San Francisco's GaymerX convention earlier this month. GaymerX founder Matt Conn praised Atari's move as "a huge step toward equality in gaming."

“It’s extremely important that we see these large publishers like Atari stepping up to the plate," he said in an email statement to HuffPost Gay Voices. "I'm excited that they have the courage to take the first step in supporting the community.”

Although other specifics of the game are currently limited, "Pridefest" will join a growing family of LGBT-inclusive video games. Earlier this year, Handsome Woman Productions released "Ultimate Gay Fighter," a fighting game featuring characters who embody particular stereotypes from the LGBT community.

In 2013, Up Multimedia developer Luke Miller created "My Ex-Boyfriend the Space Tyrant." The lead character in the game, Tycho Minogue, is a space explorer who finds himself confronting aliens across the galaxies and then learns that his ex-boyfriend is the nastiest space tyrant this side of the Milky Way.
