With more than 4 million preorders for the iPhone 6 on the first day alone, there are a lot of people eagerly awaiting Friday, when many of them will be delivered.
But for anyone wondering what's been happing right now, MacRumors may have some answers. A user on the popular website says he's part of the crew of a plane that carried a shipment of new iPhones, and posted images of what he claims is a cargo hold full of the devices:
"Yep, that's what I do. I fly stuff. Privileged to be a small part of the Apple supply chain. Just landed a 747 full of iPhone 6's in Anchorage," the user with the handle goforblacksky wrote on the website's forum. "Another crew will take the airplane on to Chicago. It'll be on the ground at O'hare about 9am Sept. 15. I gave it a little extra gas coming over the Pacific, just to get them here a little quicker. You're welcome."
He wrote in another post that the shipment contained of 195,000 iPhones, weighing a combined 256,000 pounds, and the plane landed at "a little under max landing weight at 643,000 lbs."
"Believe me, this is not the only airplane hauling them apples," he added. "I'm guessing about 20 - 30 heavy's a day coming out of China with just iphones for this launch."
A heavy, he added, is a "BIG airplane."
Here's another image from inside the plane, which shows hardly enough room to fit an iPhone 6 Plus between the pallets and the wall of the fuselage:
Another image making the rounds of social media, this one from China Daily, purportedly shows a 777 cargo plane being loaded with 93 tons of new iPhones:
