LAS VEGAS -- Fueled by a focus on media, new products, and technology of the future, this year's Consumer Electronics Show is the largest ever, says Gary Shapiro, head of the Consumer Electronics Association, in an interview with Beet.TV. The flagship consumer electronics event comprises more than 2 million square feet of exhibit space with more than 3200 companies showing their wares.

"Five years ago it was hardware and consumer electronics. Now, it's about bringing various industries together," he says, and that includes Madison Avenue, Wall Street, Hollywood, Silicon Valley and even the auto industry. The show covers a range of consumer technology, including what's coming down the pike in robotics, nanotechnology, wireless health, ultra hi-def TVs, 3-D printing, wearable technology, and a range of new devices in the smartphone and tablet field, he says.

We interviewed Shapiro during CES at the MediaLink CMO party.
