Ed Sheeran has been named Spotify's most streamed artist in the world in 2014. The British singer-songwriter recently spent eight straight weeks at the top of the U.K. album charts for his sophomore record, "X," and was the first artist in two years to sell 1 million albums in the U.K. Last night, he performed at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show in London with BFF Taylor Swift. So, yeah, it's been a great year for Sheeran.
He beat out Eminem, Coldplay, Calvin Harris and Katy Perry for the top global spot, and he garnered more than 860 million listens on Spotify. "X," which was listened to 430 million times, was also the most streamed album worldwide.
According to Spotify's data, Pharrell's "Happy" was the most streamed song worldwide, Katy Perry was the most streamed female act, followed by Ariana Grande, Lana Del Rey and Beyonce, and Coldplay was the most streamed group of the year.
